A chalk bag is a chalk bag right? We tend to agree – but when you’re sliding off a run out crux move every second counts, and you probably wish you’d bought a chalk bag your greasy hands fit into a little faster.
The Arc’teryx C80 Chalk Bag feels tough and well made, we’ve had ours for about 3 months now and not had any problems. Initially the top rim felt a little flimsy, especially at the joint between the attachment point, I was worried about falling on the bag and snapping it, that said, it’s proven to be quite sturdy. We did see reports that the drawstring was weak and would break, but it seems like this is something Arc’teryx have sorted out as we havn’t had any problems.
Easy Of Use
The drawstring system opens and closes very easily, all the attachment points are easy to use and the bag itself has a very wide opening so even someone with freakishly big hands (like me) won’t have a problem using the C80 (bare in mind the C80 is the largest version of this bag).
Aside from the usuals (fleece liner, drawcord closing system) the Arc’teryx C80 features a little pocket with a zipper on the back (only on the largest model) and a little loop for your brush on the side. The hook/loop at the top features a belt (included) but you can easily remove this a use a small gear biner to attach it to your harness, or even open a beer with it. Priorities.
Value For Money
Arc’teryx gear does usually fall on the more expensive side and the C80 is no exception; the RRP is around £20 in the UK but you do get a decent build quality and some good features so this chalk bag is likely to last.
This series of chalk bags comes in a variety of sizes to suit different applications and hand sizes. We really liked the build quality and the large opening, the bag also looks pretty nice too which is a bonus. At the end of the day, if you’re on a budget just head down to your local store and see what’s cheap and fits you hand, it’s only a chalk bag after-all – if money is a bit less of a concern, definitely take a look at the Arc’teryx range of chalk bags you do get a bit more for your money.
